The hours to days converter
A day on the clock is always 24 hours. A working day is as long as you set it here.
Use this for a total of hours you reach a little at a time, such as hours of practice or study. The result shows how many days the total takes.

4.17days
100 hours ÷ 24 hours in a day. That is 4 days and 4 hours, around the clock with no breaks.
One square is one day on the clock. A row is a week.

The method
How to convert hours to days.
To convert hours to days, divide the hours by 24, because one day has 24 hours. To convert days to hours, multiply the days by 24. A week is 7 days, so it has 168 hours.
The word “day” has two meanings in these sums, and the answer depends on which one is meant. A day on the clock is 24 hours, from one midnight to the next. A working day is the part of a day spent at work, and this page counts it as 8 hours, a common full-time day.
The two kinds of day give very different answers. A job that needs 100 hours of work takes 12.5 working days, yet the same 100 hours is only 4.17 days on the clock. Every answer on this page says which kind of day it uses.
Hours to days
100, 1,000 and 10,000 hours in days.
The table converts three amounts of hours that people often ask about. Each amount is shown as days of 24 hours, as whole days with the hours left over, as weeks of 168 hours, and as working days of 8 hours.
| Hours | Days of 24 hours | Days and hours | Weeks of 168 hours | Working days of 8 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 hours | 4.17 | 4 days and 4 hours | 0.60 | 12.5 |
| 1,000 hours | 41.67 | 41 days and 16 hours | 5.95 | 125 |
| 10,000 hours | 416.67 | 416 days and 16 hours | 59.52 | 1,250 |
100 hours
How many days is 100 hours?
One hundred hours is 4.17 days of 24 hours: 100 ÷ 24 = 4.17. Counted in whole days, 100 hours is 4 days and 4 hours, a little more than half a week.
As working time, 100 hours is 12.5 working days of 8 hours, or 2.5 work weeks of 40 hours.
1,000 hours
How many days is 1,000 hours?
One thousand hours is 41.67 days of 24 hours: 1,000 ÷ 24 = 41.67. Counted in whole days, 1,000 hours is 41 days and 16 hours, or 5.95 weeks around the clock.
As working time, 1,000 hours is 125 working days of 8 hours. Those working days make 25 work weeks of 40 hours, which is close to half a year of full-time work.
10,000 hours
How long is 10,000 hours?
Ten thousand hours is 416.67 days of 24 hours: 10,000 ÷ 24. Counted in whole days, ten thousand hours is 416 days and 16 hours, or 1.14 years around the clock, since a year of 365 days has 8,760 hours.
Nobody spends ten thousand hours on one thing without stopping. The useful answer depends on how many hours a day a person gives to it, for example to practicing a skill. At 1 hour a day, 10,000 hours take 10,000 days, which is 27.4 years. The table below gives the days and years for other amounts of time a day.
One study shows what a demanding pace looks like. The study, of violin students, was by Macnamara and Maitra (2019). The top students said they practiced alone about 22.7 hours a week. At that pace, 10,000 hours take about 3,085 days, or 8.5 years.
| Hours spent each day | Days of practice or work | Years to reach 10,000 hours |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour a day, every day | 10,000 | 27.4 |
| 2 hours a day, every day | 5,000 | 13.7 |
| 4 hours a day, every day | 2,500 | 6.8 |
| 8 hours a day on 5 days a week, a full-time job | 1,250 | 4.8 |
The first three rows divide the days of practice by 365, the days in a year with no days off. The full-time row divides 10,000 hours by the 2,080 hours of a full-time year, which is 52 weeks of 40 hours before holidays and vacation.
Days to hours
Hours in 5 days, 2 weeks, 30 days, 3 months and 6 months.
To convert days to hours, multiply the days by 24. The result is the hours on the clock, nights included. The table also gives working hours at 8 hours a working day, and each row says how its working days are counted. Months have different lengths, so three months and six months are given as a range and as an average.
| Period | Days | Hours on the clock | Working hours at 8 a day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 days | 5 | 120 | 40If all five are working days |
| 2 weeks | 14 | 336 | 80Ten working days, Monday to Friday |
| 30 days | 30 | 720 | 240If all thirty are working days |
| 3 monthsAverage: 2,190 hours | 89 to 92 | 2,136 to 2,208 | 520A quarter of a full-time year |
| 6 monthsAverage: 4,380 hours | 181 to 184 | 4,344 to 4,416 | 1,040Half of a full-time year |
5 days
How many hours are in 5 days?
Five days have 120 hours: 5 days × 24 hours. That count includes every hour on the clock, nights included. Five working days of 8 hours, which is a Monday-to-Friday work week, have 40 working hours.
2 weeks

Two weeks have 336 hours: 14 days × 24 hours, or 2 weeks × 168 hours in a week. Two weeks hold ten working days from Monday to Friday. At 8 hours a working day, ten working days are 80 working hours. That is the number of hours on a full-time paycheck that covers two weeks.
30 days
How many hours are in 30 days?
Thirty days have 720 hours: 30 days × 24 hours. April, June, September and November are each exactly thirty days long. Thirty working days of 8 hours are a different amount: 240 working hours. At five working days a week, thirty working days take six weeks on the calendar. The hours in each month of the year are on how many hours are in a month.
3 months

Three months have 2,136 to 2,208 hours, depending on which months they are. Three months in a row hold 89 to 92 days, and each day has 24 hours. The shortest run is February, March and April in a year when February has 28 days.
The average for three months is 2,190 hours, a quarter of the 8,760 hours in a year of 365 days. For a full-time job, three months are 520 working hours: the 2,080 hours of a full-time year divided by four, before holidays and time off.
6 months

Planned or spent
Counting the hours you really spend.
A conversion tells you how long a number of hours is. It cannot tell you how many hours you have put in so far, and for a long goal that is the harder number to get. One hour a day for a year sounds exact, but real days vary, and a guess made from memory at the end of a month is hard to trust.
The dependable way to know is to write the hours down on the day they happen. One week of that is enough to see what a normal week holds, and the weekly math is on how many hours are in a week. The Where did my week go? calculator gives a first estimate from one typical day, and time journaling is the habit of keeping the count going in plain words.
A big total of hours is reached a little at a time, and without a running count it is hard to know how far along you are.
A good way to keep that count takes the hours from what you already write or say about your day, with no timer to start, and adds them up for you. Most journaling apps keep how the day felt, which is worth having, but they do not add up the hours you gave to the thing you are working toward.
One app built for this is Think in Numbers, a smart journaling app with time tracking built in.
You write or say your day in your own words, as it happens or all at once. The app reads what you wrote and counts the hours that went to each part of it: practice, study, work, sleep, your phone, and the time you never mentioned (shown as unaccounted). Then it shows those hours over days and weeks. Targets set your real hours beside the hours you planned. Add your hour of practice as a daily habit, and the app ticks it off when the hours you wrote reach it.
